Tree about 25 years old, 12 m tall, 65 cm in diameter at the ground where the trunk deeply furrowed, rapidly tapering to a terete trunk in upper part; bark in long, soft strips; wood with smell similar to that of freshly cut Quercus wood; sapwood pale, the heartwood reddish. No cones.
