United States, California, Flowerheads 2 - 3" across, cluster on short stems at tip of stem which has usually no other branches; leaves, long (1 to 3") and narrow, projecting from stem and covered with white wool. Found on rocky slopes or open woodlands. We have only one species of the mainly Asian genus Anaphalis. Found at Mather Ranger Station; altitude, 4,800'.
