The flowers attract many small insects; as many as 1,000 have been observed in one hour visiting an umbel only 2" across.

Found on rocky slopes or open woodlands. We have only one species of the mainly Asian genus Anaphalis. Found at Mather Ranger Station; altitude, 4,800'.
