At least two other species grow in Yosemite below 7,500': _E. capitatum_ and _E. asperum_, both with larger heads than _E. perenne_ and orange rather than yellow. The leaves on _E. asperum_ are rough and hairy.

Seed-pods are ascending, flat and one to three inches long. (The seed-pods on _A. holboellii_ are almost straight reflexed pods. In many related species the seed-pods are strongly arched and often spreading.) Found on dry stony flats and slopes at 5,500 to 11,200', May to July. This one at 10,000'.
