Perennial herbs to 1.5 m tall, consisting of 1-several stems arising from a woody rootstock; leaves of variable width, to 25 mm wide and patently serrate; calyx tube 7 mm long, lips 2.5 mm long; corolla tube 11 mm long, galea 7.5 mm long, lip 12-13 mm long. Obs.: Cyto. taken at 11:45 AM, but cloudy, foggy, and rainy; no pollinators, most of the flowers still with pollen in thecae. Population has the broadest leaves of any I have seen so far.

Obs.: 2 skippers (not caught), no bees (3:30pm). On direct bank of stream plants with lower and median cauline leaves (broad-serrate) - but over bank, where it is presumably drier, leaves have all dropped off and those that remain subtend the inflorescence. No cyto. - too mature. Along AR Rte. 7 NE, 3.8 miles northeast of junction with Rte. 84 at Bismarck, on south side of road in full sun in rocky alluvium adjacent to stream bed.
