231716George N. Lamb   s.n.
United States, Nebraska, Lancaster, TAMARISK, Tamarix gallica. Tamarisk Family, Tamaricaceae. This bushy shrub or small tree is grown only under cultivation in Nebraska, being a native of tropical and subtropical regions. However, in some of our southern states it has escaped from cultivation and grows remarkably well in moist, often somewhat saline soils, forming dense willow-like thickets. Close observation shows that the tiny, scale like clasping leaves are arranged in four rows. It is often planted in eastern Nebraska where it does fairly well but sometimes "winter kills" badly. Throughout the East and Middle West it is highly valued for its beautiful, feathery appearance and its masses of delicate flowers, and its wide range of adaptability.
