The Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt--Turtlehead Fen Unit is owned and managed by the Polk County Conservation Board. It is about 10 miles west-southwest of Baxter and northwest of U.S. Highway 65. An approximately 1 acre, average quality seep on a slope occurs within the unit. The soil survery maps the soil in the seep as Clarion loam, 2 to 5 percent slopes (138B), a Typic Hapludoll. Sparta loamy fine sand, 9 to 18 percent slopes moderately eroded (41D2)m an Entic Hapludoll, occurs abive the Clarion loam at this site. The seep is on the Des Moines Lobe.
