Kirchner Prairie Wildlife Management Area is located about 3 miles east/southeast of Langdon. It is north and northeast of 310th Street. Kirchner Prairie is 166 acres and owned by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Approximately the west half is a disturbed former prairie pasture (last grazed in 1999) and the east half is a former hay prairie. The soil at the collection site is Canisteo silty clay loam (Ce), a calcareous Typic Haplaquoll. Kirchner Prairie is on the Des Moines Lobe. Muhlenbergia richardsonii is locally common in moist soil on the far east side of the former pasture. This area is north of a shallow marsh, south of a deep marsh and about 25 meters west of the boundary between the former pasture and hay prairie. Muhlenbergia richardsonis is associated with Agrostis gigantea, Carex vulpinoidea, Hordeum jubatum, Scirpus americanus, Solidago canadensis and Verbena...
