Zion, Bryce, and Cedar Breaks Herbaria (ZNP)

Zion National Park manages a herbarium of over 3500 herbarium specimens. Zion also manages the herbaria from Cedar Breaks National Monument, over 900 specimens, and Bryce Canon National Monument, over 1800 specimens. These specimens provide baseline information about the natural environment of the three parks. These collections display the remarkable diversity at the convergence of three ecological provinces: the Colorado Plateau, the Great Basin, and the Mojave Desert. Zion’s collection represents over 95% of the confirmed 982 plant taxa in the park. The earliest specimens in the herbaria were collected in the 1920s with additions to the collection continuing today. Most of the specimens were collected from 1950s to 1980s.
