Leaf blades (2-)3-4.5 mm wide at widest. Perigynia ovate-elliptic, 3-4 × 1.1-1.7 mm, 2.2-2.8(-3) times as long as wide, margin flat, including wing 0.2-0.5 mm wide.
Fruiting early-mid summer. Open floodplain forests, moist to wet grasslands, ditches, stream banks, wet thickets; 20-600 m; Ala., Ark., Ga., Ill., Ind., Kans., Ky., La., Miss., Mo., Ohio, Okla., S.C., Tenn., Tex.; Mexico (Veracruz).
