Woody perennial. Stems erect or ascending, 0.5-3 m tall, glabrous or slightly pubescent. Leaves cauline; sessile or petiolate, petiole 2-7 mm; blades narrowly elliptic to lanceolate; tip acuminate; base attenuate; margins serrate. Flowers solitary in axils of the upper stem leaves; pedicels 85-210 mm, glabrous to slightly pubescent; hypanthium 4-9 mm long; nectar spurs absent; calyx lobes 6-18 mm, erect; corollas orange/red to yellow, the tube 18-26 mm long, with dorsal slit and lateral “windows” near the base; staminal column 30-36 mm, 2 lower anthers white bristled at tips, upper anthers with hairs along the back. Fruit about ½ inferior, 10-13 mm long, ascending. Seeds elliptic and minutely reticulate. Editor: MBarrera 2024.

Habitat: Moist slopes and grassy banks in conifer or mixed conifer-deciduous forests at elevations of 1850-3350 m. Flowering from mid-July to late April.

Distribution: Southern Mexico (Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas) and Western Guatemala.

Perennes leñosos. Tallos erectos o ascendentes, 0.5-3 m de altura, glabros o un poco pubescentes. Hojas caulinares; sésiles o con pecíolo, 2-7 mm; láminas elíptico hasta lanceolada; punta acuminada; base atenuada; márgenes serrado. Flores solitario en la axila de las hojas; pedicelos 85-210 mm, glabros o un poco pubescentes; hipanto 4-9 mm de largo; esponoles de nectar ausentes; lóbulos de cáliz 6-18 mm, erectos; corolas de color naranja/roja a amarillo, el tubo 18-26 mm de largo, con raja dorsal y con ventanas “laterales” cerca de la base; columno estaminal 30-36 mm, 2 anteras inferiores con cerdas blancas en la punta y las anteras superiores tienen pelos a lo largo de la espalda. Fruto aproxiadamente ½ inferior, 10-13 mm de largo, ascendente. Semillas elípticas y reticulado minuciosamente. Editora: MBarrera 2024.

Hábitat: Laderas húmedas y riberas cubiertas de hierba en bosques de coníferas o mixtos de coníferas y caducifolios entre 1850-3350 m de altura. Florece desde mediados de Julio hasta finales de Abril.

Distribución: Sur de México (Guerrero, Oaxaca, y Chiapas) y el occidente de Guatemala.
