Fls perfect; hypanthium narrowly funnelform, slightly constricted above the ovary, thence differentiated into a cylindric tube and slightly spreading limb, bearing 8 exsert stamens at the summit of the tube; sep minute; pet none; style slender, exsert, exceeding the stamens; fr a drupe; shrubs with jointed twigs and very tough bark, bearing lateral clusters of 2-4 small, subsessile, pale yellow fls subtended by hairy bud-scales in early spring before the lvs appear. 2, N.
