Anita F. Cholewa, Sylvia Kelso in Flora of North America (vol. 8)
Plants glabrous except for white farina on involucral bracts and calyces. Leaves shorter than scape; blade spatulate, margins subentire. Corolla tubes 7-10 mm, length 1.5-2 times calyx.

Flowering summer. Cliff faces and ledges; of conservation concern; 1500 m; Utah.

Variety maguirei is known from Logan Canyon. It is distinguished from other members of the complex by its more-spatulate, almost entire leaf blades. It was federally listed as threatened in 1985.
