Colonial; stems 1-2 m, armed with curved, broad-based infrastipular prickles and often also with a few internodal prickles; lfls 5 or 7, sparsely pubescent above, densely so beneath, as also the rachis; pedicel glabrous, short, often not surpassing the bract; hypanthium wide-mouthed, glabrous; fls often double; pet dark rose-color, 2-3 cm; hips red; 2n=14. Native of Eurasia, often escaped from cult. (R. cinnamomea, misapplied)
