Annual or biennial, decumbent or ascending, 1-3 dm; lfls obovate-oblong to obovate, 8-15 mm; heads ovoid, 10-15 mm, sessile in the upper axils and appearing terminal; fls 5-7 mm; cal densely pubescent with ascending hairs, the tube 2-3 mm, the subulate teeth 0.7-1.5 mm, the lowest one slightly the longer; pet bright pink, with darker veins; 2n=14. Native of Europe, locally established as a weed along the eastern seaboard, notably at Cape Cod, Mass. June-Aug.
