The Morton Arboretum
Shrub Leaves: opposite, short-stalked, rounded with pointed tip, hairy beneath. Flowers: in pairs, axillary. Bracts densely hairy. Calyx short, five-lobed. Corolla white, turning yellowish, 12 mm long or longer, tubular, five-lobed. Stamens five. The calyx lobes, bractlets, and bracts bear stalked glands. Fruit: a few-seeded berry, in pairs, reddish orange. Twigs: hollow. Form: upright.

Similar species: Lonicera morrowii is similar but its calyx lobes, bractlets, and bracts do not bear stalked glands.

Flowering: May

Habitat and ecology: Escaped from cultivation. Occasional along woodland edges and in grazed woods.

Occurence in the Chicago region: non-native

Etymology: Lonicera is named after Adam Lonicer (1528-1586), a German botanist and author.
