Fruit: usually top-shaped with loose and hairy scales. Characteristics: intermediate of the parents. Young leaves, branchlets and buds have more hairs than Quercus ellipsoidalis.
Similar species: Quercus x palaeolithicola is a hybrid of Quercus velutina and Quercus ellipsoidalis. The attributes of the hybrid tend to be intermediate of the parents. See links below for further information on the parents.
