Stems prostrate to decumbent or ± erect; herbage finely and closely grayish-arachnoid-tomentose or glabrous, minutely stipitate-glandular. Leaf blades narrowly oblanceolate, 5-22 × 2-4 mm, not thick-fleshy, margins entire or with 1-2 pairs of teeth distally. Heads in corymbiform to loose, paniculiform arrays. Corollas 5-6.5 mm. Cypselae 2.3-3.6 mm. 2n = 24.
Flowering Jul-Nov. Sandy flats or slopes, commonly in disturbed sites; of conservation concern; 10-50(-200) m; Calif.; Mexico (Baja California).
Variety decumbens grows in San Diego County and southward.
