Petioles 5-10 mm, dilated, glabrous; lf-blades cuneate, 4-10 mm, usually longer than the petiole; stipules absent or reduced to one or 2 minute, setaceous segments; scape 4-9 cm, with 1-8 fls; sep glandular-hairy, 2.5-3.5 mm, pet rose to white, obovate, 4-8 mm; seeds black, 0.3-0.4 mm, obovoid-oblong, crateriform-pitted, with 10-12 rows of pits; 2n=20. Common in wet low places, chiefly on or near the coastal plain, from Va. to Fla. and Tex., and in Ky. and Tenn.; also in S. Amer. Mar-May. (D. annua; D. leucantha; D. maritima)
