Perennial 3-5 dm; stems one or few from a thick woody rhizome-caudex, mostly simple, finely glandular-villous above, sparsely hairy or glabrate below; lvs cauline, rhombic-ovate to deltoid, 5-8 cm, acute, coarsely crenate-serrate above, toward the base entire and abruptly narrowed to a cuneate base decurrent along the petiole almost to the stem; infl interrupted, long-peduncled above the scarcely reduced upper lvs, 1-2 dm; fls 6-10 per node, the bracteal lvs ovate, 2-3 mm, caducous; cal at anthesis 4-5 mm, glandular-punctate, the upper lip 3-toothed, half as long as the tube and about as long as the lower lip; cor blue, 10-13 mm, the upper lip much shorter than the lower.
