Much like no. 4 [Senecio canus Hook], even more closely tomentose, but the upper lf-surfaces commonly soon glabrate; basal lf-blades mostly elliptic or obovate, 1-4 cm נ6-20 mm, shallowly and rather remotely dentate to occasionally entire; cauline lvs few and much reduced, linear and entire or pinnatifid with linear segments; achenes hirtellous on the angles; 2n=46. Shale-barrens; s. Pa. to Va. and W.Va. Apr.-June.
