Leaves 2-8 × 1-2 cm; blade bright green, elliptic to lanceolate. Scape 2-8 dm. Flowers: perianth golden yellow, campanulate, 6-7 mm, 2 times or less as long as broad, lobes erect. Fruits: beaks gradually narrowed distally. 2n = 26.

Flowering late spring--mid summer. Dry to wet pine flatwoods, savannas, and bogs; 0--100+ m; Ala., Ark., Fla., Ga., La., Md., Miss., N.C., Okla., S.C., Tex., Va.

Much like no. 1 [Aletris farinosa L.]; raceme usually looser; fls yellow, campanulate, 5-7 mm, the perianth-lobes triangular, 1.5 mm, nearly as wide; 2n=26. Pine-barrens, chiefly on the coastal plain; s. Md. to Fla. and Tex. June, July.
