Shrub or small tree to 9 m; lvs broadly obovate to broadly elliptic or sometimes broadly ovate, 5-20 cm, acute or shortly acuminate, distantly toothed to entire, pale and ±stellate-tomentose beneath; racemes longer and more drooping than in no. 1 [Styrax americanus Lam.], with 5-20 fls; cal 4-5 mm, canescent; cor-lobes 15-22 mm; fr subglobose, 7-9 mm thick; 2n=32.
