Stoloniferous perennial, essentially glabrous; flowering stems assurgent, 1-3 dm; lvs all long-petioled and arising from the ground level (either from the central crown or from stolons) except for a short-petioled, opposite pair subtending the fl-head; lfls broadly obovate, 2-3 cm long and wide, commonly shallowly retuse; stipules green, leafy, lanceolate to ovate, 1-2 cm; peduncles 3-8 cm; fls 9-12 mm; cal-tube 1.5-2.5 mm, the lobes subequal, 3-4.5 mm; cor white, often with pink-purple veins, the obovate standard conspicuously exceeding the obtuse wings; seeds 1.7-2 mm; 2n=16, 32. Moist, well drained disturbed woods associated with streams; rare; W.Va. and O. to e. Kans. and n. Ark. Apr.-July.
