[Hibiscus californicus Kellogg, moreHibiscus lasiocarpos var. occidentalis , Hibiscus leucophyllus Shiller, Hibiscus moscheutos subsp. lasiocarpos (Cav.) O. J. Blanch., Hibiscus moscheutos var. occidentalis Torr., Hibiscus platanoides Greene]
I have found this species only on the muddy borders of ponds in the southwestern part of Knox County, and in the southern part of Gibson County. It has been reported from Daviess, Hamilton, and Vigo Counties. It is probable that these reports should all be referred to the preceding species [Hibiscus palustris]. A specimen reported from Parke County by Grimes is in the herbarium of DePauw University and is Hibiscus palustris.
