Delicate herb with a musky odor, 5-20 cm; basal lvs long-petiolate, ternate, the primary divisions discrete, again 1-2-ternate or parted, the ultimate segments rather broad, thin, round-toothed and mucronate; cauline lvs similar but smaller and less dissected, commonly borne a little above the middle of the shoot; cor yellowish-green, 5-8 mm wide; 2n=36, 54. Moist, often mossy places in forested regions; circumboreal, extending s. to s. Minn., Wis., n. Ill., n. Io., and Delaware Co., N.Y. May-July.
