Bulbs 4-7 cm, tunic dark brown, membranous. Leaves 1-2 dm × 3-9 mm, margins undulate. Panicles 3-9 dm, branches usually ascending, erect. Flowers diurnal, closing after 1 day, 2 or more per axil; tepals spreading from above base, white or pinkish, with darker midvein, subrotate, 7-8 mm; stamens 3-4 mm, shorter than tepals; anthers yellow, 1.5-2 mm; pollen yellow; style 7-9 mm, longer than tepals; pedicels typically 2 or more in axil of each bract, slender, 2-8 mm, usually shorter than perianth. Capsules 3-4 mm. 2n = 60.
Flowering May--Aug. Dry open areas of coastal sage scrub; 0--800 m; Calif.; Mexico (Baja California).
