Annuals, 5-15 cm. Stems ascending. Leaves: blades oblanceolate, 1-2 cm, margins entire, plane (apices acute), faces woolly. Heads borne singly or in loose arrays. Peduncles ± 1 cm. Involucres cylindric, 3-4+ mm diam. Phyllaries 4-6, distinct. Ray florets 4-6; laminae yellow, ± 1 mm (inconspicuous). Disc florets 10-20; corollas ± 2 mm (tubes cylindric, throats broadly funnelform, abruptly dilated, lobes not glandular; anther appendages deltate, glandular). Cypselae 2.5-3 mm; pappi of 8-10 lanceolate to spatulate (± unequal) scales 0.5-1.5 mm. 2n = 14.

Flowering Jun-Jul. Gravelly or rocky openings, yellow pine or red fir forests; of conservation concern; 1800-2500 m; Calif.
