Plants 6-48 cm. Stems branched. Leaf blades linear to narrowly elliptic or oblanceolate, 20-50 × 3-6 mm. Involucres campanulate. Phyllaries in 2-3 series, narrowly lanceolate, sparsely hirsuto-pilose. Ray florets 17-42; corollas yellow, laminae 3-8 mm. Disc florets 21-91; corollas yellow, narrowly funnelform, not contracted at lobes, lobes 5. P appi of 8-12 bristles, weakly dilated at bases. 2n = 18.

Flowering Mar-Apr. Grassy coastal hills; of conservation concern; 20-700 m; Calif.
