Culms 4-11 dm, slender, glabrous, shining; sheaths and blades smooth, the blades filiform; infl open, flexuous, 10-20 cm; spikelets on slender pedicels, 6-12 mm, 3-5(-7) fld; first glume 2.7-3.6 mm, the second 3.5-4.5 mm; lemmas green or purplish, soft and membranous, the body 4-6.5(-8) mm, the awn two-thirds to almost twice as long; rachilla-joints 1-1.5 mm; anthers 1-2 mm; top of the ovary bristly-pubescent; 2n=14, 28, 42, 56, 64, 70.
