Annual or short-lived perennial, with several ascending or suberect stems to 5 dm; lvs mostly crowded below, the first ones long-petiolate and unifoliolate, obovate to lanceolate, 1-5 cm, the others mostly with 5-11 oblong to oblanceolate lfls; head 3-4 cm thick, subtended by 3-cleft bracts; fls 1.5 cm, yellow; cal hirsute, 1 cm; 2n=12. Native of Europe, casually intr. here and there in our range.
