Rhizomatous perennial, curved at base; stems pubescent, 2-5 dm; lvs all petioled, green, ovate or more often deltoid, 3-10 cm, coarsely crenate, narrowed with flat or concave sides to an acute tip; cal 10-13 mm, the lobes conspicuously longer than the tube, the terminal setaceous part longer than the triangular base; cor white, 2-3 cm, the tube curved, with an oblique ring of hairs internally near the base, the upper lip more than half as long as the tube, long-villous, the lateral lobes each with 2-3 terminal teeth; 2n=18. Native of Eurasia, occasionally intr. in gardens, roadsides, and waste places; Ont. to Va. Apr.-Sept.
