Erect or spreading annual 1-5 dm, the stem simple to diffusely branched, usually ±hirsute-villous, especially above; lvs sessile or subsessile, lanceolate to oval, 1-2.5 cm, 1-3-nerved, white-hairy on the margins and midvein; fls homostylous, subsessile in terminal or axillary glomerules; sep lanceolate to ovate, ciliolate, acute, 1 mm; cor white, ±rotate, 2 mm wide, its lobes shorter than the sep; fr wholly inferior, densely white-hairy; seeds very numerous, angular; 2n=36, 72. Wet soil, mostly on the coastal plain; L.I. to Fla. and Tex., n. to se. Mo. Summer. (Oldenlandia u.)
