Leaves: petioles narrowly winged; blades narrowly obovate, oblanceolate, or spat-ulate, 1.5-4 cm wide, margins dentate, faces glabrous (glaucous). Heads 3-15. Involucres 7-12 mm. Phyllaries lanceolate, apices attenuate, faces glabrous or slightly tomentose, eglandular. Cypselae golden brown, 3.5-5.5 mm, not beaked; pappi 5-6 mm. 2n = 22 Flowering May-Aug. Alkaline, wet or dry meadows; 1600-2300 m; Alta., Man., Sask.; Ariz., Colo., Idaho, Mont., Nebr., Nev., N.Mex., N.Dak., S.Dak., Tex., Utah, Wyo.
