Leaves all or mostly opposite (distal sometimes alternate); blades ± deltate to rhombic, 3-8+ × 2-5+ cm, bases ± cuneate, margins raggedly toothed, apices obtuse to acute, faces strigoso-sericeous. Heads borne singly or 2-3 together. Involucres shallowly bowl-shaped, 15-25+ mm diam. Phyllaries 28-35+ in 2-3 series, ± erect, linear to lance-olate, 8-12+ mm. Ray florets 12-16+; laminae 10-12+ mm. Disc florets 80-150+; corollas yellow to orange. Cypselae blackish, ± elliptic, 6.5-8 mm, faces ± strigillose; pappi 0.5-1+ mm. 2n = 68. Flowering May(-Oct). Silty flats, roadsides, desert scrub; 1000-2000 m; N.Mex., Tex.; Mexico (Coahuila).
