Simple or sparingly branched from the base, 0.5-3 dm; lvs ovate to orbicular, 5-15 mm, with 3-5 obtuse or rounded teeth on each side, glabrous to evidently pubescent on both surfaces; bracteal lvs similar but smaller; infl soon elongating, the lower internodes 1-2 cm and only the uppermost verticils remaining approximate; cal-lobes eventually 1.5-2 mm, broadly triangular; cor 2.5-4.5 mm, pale with darker lines, or sometimes deep violet, the upper lip only very shallowly bilobed; seeds 1-1.3 mm.
