Frederick H. Utech in Flora of North America (vol. 26)
Flowers: perianth lobes 4-7 mm wide; staminodia margins 1/2 involute; ovary 5-7 mm. 2n = 10, 12, 24.

Flowering summer (Jun). Open mixed evergreen forests, chaparral, gravelly clay soils, often on serpentines; 0--900 m; Calif.

This subspecies is uncommon, occuring in the Coast Ranges of northern California. T. F. Niehaus (1971, 1980) recognized Brodiaea leptandra as a separate species related to B. californica and B. appendiculata. G. Keator (1993) regarded it as a variety that is geographically disjunct and slightly smaller.
