Twigs glandular-hairy, sometimes short-hairy proxi-mally. Leaf blades green to gray-green, base cuneate to rounded, surfaces papillate, scabrous, or smooth, glandular-puberulent or sparsely puberulent. Inflores-cences: immature inflorescence axis densely white-hairy and usually glandular-hairy; bracts densely white-hairy and usually glandular-hairy. Pedicels densely white-hairy and usually glandular-hairy. Ovaries densely white-hairy and usually glandular-hairy. Fruits slightly depressed-globose. Stones distinct. 2n = 52.

Flowering winter-early spring. Chaparral, often on steep, rocky slopes; 300-1900 m; Calif., Oreg.; Mexico (Baja California).

Subspecies glandulosa is found from southwestern Oregon through the Coast, Transverse, and Peninsular ranges of California, into the mountains of northern Baja California.
