peduncles 1-5 cm; fls 6-9 mm, ochroleucous; cal-lobes densely hairy, 4-6.5 mm; fr densely hairy, nearly or quite as long as the cal-lobes; 2n=20. Dry or moist, acid soils, chiefly on the coastal plain; e. Mass. to Fla. and La.; c. Tenn. Late summer.
