Much like no. 6 [Sabatia campanulata (L.) Torr.], but annual; lvs of the main axis typically oblanceolate, 2-4 cm, acute, actually or apparently widest above the middle, concavely narrowed to a slender base; upper lvs linear; cal inconspicuously nerved, the linear lobes 5-11 (avg 9) mm; cor- lobes obovate, 9-18 mm, more than half as wide; style usually cleft to near the base; 2n=36. Salt or brackish marshes along the coast from Mass. to Fla. and La.; inland in Mex. July, Aug.
