Much like no. 19 [Solidago curtisii Torr. & A. Gray]; rhizome commonly elongate; infl in considerable or large part terminal and thyrsoid, with much reduced lvs, only the lower part consisting of axillary clusters; heads relatively large and coarse, the invol 4.5-7 mm, tending to be finely granular-glandular or glandular-puberulent, its bracts strongly 3-nerved, the larger ones ca 1 mm wide or more at or above midlength; rays 5-8; disk-fls 6-12. Upper elev. (mostly above 1500 m) in the mts. of Va., N.C., and Tenn.
