Stems sparsely tomentulose or glabrous (nodes usually auriculate-appendaged). Leaves mostly cauline; blades ovate to lanceolate in outline, 3-7 × 1-3 cm, subentire to incised or irregularly pinnatifid. Ray florets 8-13; laminae 10-18 mm. Cypselae ± quadrate, 2.5-4 mm; pappi 0, or (often fragile) of 1-10+ subulate or acerose scales to 0.5(-1.5) mm. 2n = 34.
Flowering spring-summer. Sandy soils, often with mesquite; 50-200 m; Tex.; Mexico (Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas).
