Plants 5-15 cm. Stems simple, lightly arachnoid and villous with viscid hairs. L eaves often wider than 8 mm; basal lanceolate to elliptic, margins denticulate, arachnoid throughout or viscid-villous on margins and abaxially on midvein; cauline leaves narrower, crowded, usually surpassing heads. Heads crowded. Phyllaries unequal in 2-3 series; outer phyllaries usually 2-4 times longer than wide. 2n = unknown.

Flowering Jul-Aug. Tundra, insular and coastal regions; 10-100 m; Alaska; Russian Far East (Chukotka).
