Stems puberulent or canescent, sometimes sparsely stipitate-glandular. Leaves: mid blades 2-6 mm wide, margins entire or slightly serrulate, faces sparsely puberulent or canescent. Involucres usually broadly turbinate, rarely hemispheric, 7-12 mm. Phyllary apices acute to acuminate, 1-3 mm, faces usually puberulent or canescent, sparsely stipitate-glandular.
Flowering Aug-Oct. Pine/oak woodlands and chaparral in the Laguna Mountains (San Diego County); 800-2400 m; Calif.; Mexico (Baja California).
