PLANT: Perennial herbs, sometimes flowering the first year, simple to branched, leafy to subscapose, glabrous or sparsely pubescent. LEAVES: basal to alternate, gradually reduced upwards, entire to pinnately lobed, the lobes completely confluent with the rachis, usually flat. INFLORESCENCE: terminal, paniculate, open to congested, the basic unit composed of 2-5 pedicelled flowers subtended by a single bract, rarely solitary. FLOWERS: actinomorphic; calyx tube membranes ruptured in fruit; corolla rotate to broadly funnelform, the tube, throat, and lobes often with the same hues; stamens equally inserted on the lower corolla tube; filaments equal or unequal in length; anthers included to exserted; style included to exserted.
