Cal divided to below the middle, the lobes foliaceous, often unequal; cor funnelform to salverform, shallowly 5-lobed; stamens inserted at or below the middle of the cor-tube; anthers ovoid, longitudinally dehiscent; capsule 2-valved, many-seeded; herbs, usually clammy-pubescent; lvs alternate, or falsely opposite on the flowering branches, entire; fls small to large, solitary on short lateral peduncles, violet to red or white. 40, New World.
