Vascular plants of NE US and adjacent Canada
Spikelets with one perfect terminal fl, fusiform, solitary on long slender pedicels; first glume minute or obsolete; second glume nearly as long as the spikelet, 3-veined; sterile lemma like another glume, strongly 5- or 7-veined; fertile lemma minutely rugulose, leathery, with thin margins clasping the edges of the palea; perennials with flat blades and membranous ligule, the panicle very diffuse, eventually breaking away and rolling before the wind. Monotypic.
