Stems scattered along the branches of a subterranean caudex, ±ascending, 2-6 dm, branched, thinly canescent, the hairs basifixed; stipules ±free; lfls 11-25, linear to oblong or oblanceolate, 5-15 mm, strigose beneath; racemes 2-3 cm at anthesis, later elongating, with 12-25 white or purplish fls 8-11 mm; cal-tube 3-4 mm, the lobes triangular, 0.5-1.5 mm; fr spreading or pendulous, 1.2-2.5 cm נ3-5 mm, linear-oblong, firm, subterete, scarcely or not sulcate, minutely strigose, sessile or nearly so; 2n=22. Sandy prairies and bluffs; w. Minn. to Sask., se. B.C., N.M., and Ariz. Ours is var. flexuosus. (Pisophaca f.; P. elongata)
