Vascular plants of NE US and adjacent Canada
Cal nearly regular, coriaceous, the 5 broad lobes separate to the middle; cor evidently bilabiate, its lobes shorter than the tube, the upper reflexed, the lower spreading; stamens 4, included; pollen-sac divergent; style elongate, very shortly bilobed; fr woody, ovoid 2-locular, loculicidal; seeds flattened, winged, with rather scanty, oily endosperm; trees with opposite or whorled simple lvs and showy, blue or violet fls in terminal panicles. 17, e.
