Heads 1-12+, held well beyond leaves. Peduncles 14-45+ cm (ribs tan, prominent). Phyllaries 7-14, outer linear, 6-12 × 0.8-1.5 mm, inner lance-ovate, 1-5 × 0.8-1.5 mm. Paleae 3-4.3 × 1.5-3 mm, resin glands oval, 1-1.8 mm. Ray florets 4-14; corollas yellow, purplish yellow, or maroon, often bicolor (maroon/yellow), laminae mostly ovate to elliptic, 5-15 × 4-12 mm. Discs columnar, 15-70 × 8-13 mm. Disc florets 200-400+; corollas greenish yellow, often purplish distally, 2.5-3 mm; style branches ca. 1.8 mm, proximal ¹/2 stigmatic, apices subulate. Cypselae oblong, 2.3-5 × 1.2-3 mm, abaxial margins narrowly winged to fimbriate or pectinate-fimbriate, adaxial margins pectinate-fimbriate; pappi (tan) of 1-2 toothlike projections.
